Welllllllll . . . I took a break from blogging for just a short 1 year and a half. It doesn't even seem possible that it has been that long. Before "we" were a family of four. Now, "we" are five. . . and we couldn't love it more. Nolan joined our fiesty bunch in October . . . how we adore him!
As I wrestled with blogging again, I wrestled with issues such as time, necessity, practicality, creativity, and mostly - who in the heck wants to read what I have to say??? :) (Besides my mom and mom-in-law, that is!) I wrestle with the notion that often times people read others' blogs and see the great family snapshots, latest vacation trip and newest remodeling and often place their lives in comparison. PLEASE hear me. Nothing is wrong with those things. But, for those who read blogs occasionally, do you ever find yourself thinking, hmmmm, they had a GREAT memorial day weekend - look at their fun and festive photos . . . ours was just so-so. And then find yourself rethinking what you should have done better? Or have you ever found yourself taking pictures just to post on facebook or your next blog post, like you feel a need to capture a moment instead of living it? Those, my friends are just minor examples of what I absolutely want to avoid. Our life is not glamorous, but it is great. Our house is not expansive (you can have a conversation in any room in a loud voice and can hear it anywhere in the house) but it is inviting, and it is us. Our days are not best-selling, thrill-seeking, eye-popping or heart-racing adventures to most . . . . but trust me, we have experienced everyone one of those emotions, sometimes good and sometimes bad!
One of my favorite paragraphs comes from, "Mitten strings for God:"
"In our efforts to make each moment "count" we seem to have lost the knack of appreciating the ordinary. We provide our children with so much that the extraordinary isn't special anymore, and the subtle rhythms of daily life elude us altogether. We do too much and savor too little. "
Here's to savoring the small moments in our ordinary days that provide tremendous joy in our life journeys. Thanks for sharing in our family's. . . . .
