Holly and Aaron met with the neurosurgeon tonight about 6:15pm. The results were mixed. The good news is that the tumor has not spread to her spine. Praise God! The bad news is the location of the tumor. The tumor has wrapped itself around major blood vessels that feed her brain. So the tumor is not completely operable. The surgeon said to remove the entire tumor would be far too risky. The risk of stroke or paralysis is far too high. So this Friday Kate will undergo brain surgery to see how much of the tumor they can remove safely. Then early next week they will determine the diagnosis of her cancer and her treatment plan (next steps). As Holly said, it is beyond comprehension. Two days ago they were chatting about what water park they were going to go to and now . . . what treatment plan will Kate undergo. Katie bear, how we wish we could hold you right now.
